Powersports are any vehicle, powered by electricity or gasoline, used for recreational purposes. Powersports include the following vehicles: ATVs (Quads), UTVs (Sxs), Motorcycles, Dirt Bikes, Go Karts, Golf Carts, Utility Dumpers/Vehicles, etc. What form of identification is required to register an All-Electric Vehicle? The only acceptable forms of identification that can be used to register an EV are a valid New York State boat registration or title. The registration does NOT have to match your DMV-issued license plate number. Any exceptions to this rule are clearly noted on the MV-82 form MV-78a. If you own an all-electric golf cart it must be registered as an ATV.
Powersports Auto insurance
Powersports or “Motorcycles and ATVs” as labeled on many insurance policies, is a term that includes street motorcycles, dirt bikes, trail bikes and all-terrain vehicles (ATVs), even snowmobiles and personal watercraft (jet skis). It’s important to note that the proper definition of Powersports does not include automobiles or standard passenger vehicles. Even though they may be similar in size and use, these vehicles are excluded from Powersport coverage.
If your car was totaled in an accident involving your motorcycle, then you’d file a claim with traditional Auto Insurance. If your bike was totaled in an auto accident then you file a claim with Powersports Insurance – two entirely different claim processes. The coverage you get with Powersports Insurance varies depending on the insurance carrier. While some carriers provide broad, blanket coverage for motorcycles and ATVs, others might only cover your dirt bike at “agreed value” while excluding other types of motorcycles or ATVs altogether. Some companies will also exclude certain makes and models that they don’t feel are suitable for their underwriting guidelines. The key to receiving the most comprehensive protection is to shop around. Ask the representative if there are any make/models that it does not cover (yes, even though you love your Ninja) and if additional equipment needs to be added in order to obtain full coverage (ie: seat bags or market exhaust systems). If you’ve been riding for a while, you’re probably aware of some things that may not be covered under your current policy.
Registration of vehicle
Your registration must be processed at your County Treasurer’s office before you can obtain temporary operating authority (drive-out tags). This process can take up to 21 days. The temporary drive-out tag is valid for 30 days from the date issued. The balance of the registration fee is due upon pick up or mailing of your permanent plates. Can I get a refund if my application is denied? If you withdraw your application prior to the Secretary of State issuing your registration, there will be no penalty assessed and you will receive a refund minus the $5 processing fee. If your application is denied, you may reapply for registration within the next calendar year. What guidelines must I follow when registering my vehicle? It is unlawful to use or permit to be used in this form for any other than its intended purpose. This includes reproducing the form, completing it to deceive or defraud, and/or altering information requested on the document.
Any person who knowingly fills out a false application commits a simple misdemeanor punishable upon conviction by a fine of not less than $50 and not more than $200 and upon a second or subsequent offense by a fine of not less than $100 and not more than $500.
